St. Patrick’s Community School in Red Deer was selected to participate in Indigo's Love of Reading Foundation’s Adopt-A-School fundraiser.
From Sept, 13 to Oct. 4, every dollar raised through the program at Indigo Red Deer (and at St. Patrick's) will go towards filling school shelves with new and diverse books.
“Access to literature is a lifeline for students, offering a pathway to knowledge, empathy, and opportunities. Books provide a bridge to diverse perspectives, inspire resilience, and empower these students to dream beyond their circumstances, unlocking a world of possibilities,” said Mandy Reed, St. Patrick’s Community School principal.
She sees this as not just an investment in education, but a catalyst for lifelong success, "opening new avenues for our students and ensuring a brighter future for our community.”
On Saturday, St. Patrick’s staff and students will be at Indigo Red Deer to kick off the fundraiser with a coffee and lemonade stand outside the store beginning at 11:00 a.m. Other events include appearances by student guest readers in the store’s Kids Section starting at 11:00 a.m., a Magna-Tiles event from 1 to 2 p.m., and a book signing by Brettney Thompson, author of I Knew You Would Be Trouble from 2 to 5 p.m.
There will also be a table set up in the school with book recommendations from St. Patrick’s Community School staff and students for the duration of the fundraiser.
