Seniors Week starts Monday

Refreshments and entertainment start at 10 a.m. Monday at the Golden Circle at 4620, 47A Ave., followed by a barbecue lunch at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon will also celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Golden Circle with an assortment of activities and entertainment.

As part of Seniors’ Week, seniors in Red Deer will be able to ride city transit and use recreational facilities for free from Monday until June 10. All they have to do is present a button.

Red Deerians 65 and older can pick up promotional buttons by presenting photo identification at the Collicutt Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre, Recreation Centre, Michener Aquatic Centre or the transit customer service office in Sorensen Station.

Many other events will be going on throughout the week, including a Kinsmen Family Services Seniors’ Week Tea at 1 p.m. at Parkland Mall on June 6 and a pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m. June 7 at the Redwoods Retirement Residence a 6 Daykin St.

The theme for this year’s week is Seniors: A New Energy.
