A number of local schools are closed and buses cancelled due to slick road conditions this morning.

All Red Deer Catholic Rural buses are cancelled for today, including those in Blackfalds, Bowden, Sylvan Lake, Innisfail, Olds, Rocky Mountain House, Didsbury, Caroline, and Red Deer County.

However, Red Deer Catholic schools are still open.

Kinder Care Community Services in Sylvan Lake is closed for the day, as are all Wolf Creek schools.

Chinook’s Edge school buses are cancelled for today.

Rimbey Christian and Ponoka Christian schools are closed.

For St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Schools, there are no buses running to Father Lacombe or St. Augustine schools, but the schools remain open.

In the Wild Rose School district, Rocky area bus routes 2, 15, 16, 21, 24, 25, 35, 38 and 53 are not running.

For the Caroline area, routes 37, 43, 45 and 47 are cancelled.

In the Condor area, routes 10, 28, 29, 31, 33, 55 and 56 are also shut down. Central Alberta Christian High, Lacombe Christian and College Heights Christian schools are closed.

Roads were in a fairer condition by mid-morning today with no major incidents, said Const. Steve Molnar of the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit. Drivers are still urged to travel with caution, he said, as frost and slippery conditions may appear later in the day.

Hwy 2 is partially snow covered but there were no accidents to report at the time, said Sheriff Lance Chalmers of Ponoka RCMP.

Almost all roads in Central Alberta were in good or fair conditions later this morning, as reported by an Alberta Motor Association road report.

Twenty-two cm of snow has fallen in Red Deer over the last three days, said Cindy Yu, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, with two cm of that total falling over the last 24 hours.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to hover above zero at 2C, said Yu, making for messy road conditions.
