A 16-year-old Stettler student was charged after RCMP found a small amount of marijuana in the local high school.

Stettler RCMP Sgt. Rowland Schmidt said a school resource officer at William E. Hay Composite High School found out that one of the students was allegedly in possession of some drugs.

“So a check was conducted, in conjunction and working closely with the school staff, and we allege that was in fact the case and there was enough evidence to lay a charge.

“A small amount of marijuana was seized.”

The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

She is scheduled to appear in Stettler provincial court on April 14.
