A stolen vehicle investigation led to the arrest of two men on weapons and drug charges.

Just after midnight on Sunday, Innisfail RCMP arrested two men in connection with a vehicle stolen from the 47th Avenue area in town.

After a search, police found a loaded sawed-off shotgun inside the vehicle within the men’s reach, along with a police baton, knife and ammunition. Also seized was cash, crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, oxycodone, a digital scale and two cellphones. A second shotgun was found in the trunk of the vehicle.

The suspects, aged 20 and 41, are jointly charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited loaded weapon.

The 20-year-old also faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of the proceeds of crime. An additional charge of breach of an undertaking was laid against the 41-year-old.

Both men were in Red Deer provincial court on Monday. They remain in custody and return to court on Feb. 4.
