Streaker bares all near Dawe — twice

A Red Deer streaker managed a second display of nudity after a passerby helped him slip through the hands of police.

A Red Deer streaker managed a second display of nudity after a passerby helped him slip through the hands of police.

Cpl. Kathe DeHeer of city RCMP said Tuesday police responded to a call Friday about 6:30 p.m. that two people, a male and a female, were running around nude near the Dawe Community Centre.

When police arrived, the two suspects, unclad, ran off in different directions.

A police officer soon arrested a naked Shawn William Chenette, 23, of Red Deer, and placed him in a police cruiser.

Then when that officer went to assist in the arrest of the female, a passerby let Chenette out of the cruiser. Police had to track him down to arrest him again.

Chenette pleaded guilty to a charge of indecency and was placed on probation for a year when he appeared in provincial court Monday.

Chenette was originally charged with single counts of committing an indecent act, resisting arrest and escaping lawful custody.

The two other charges were withdrawn.

A 17-year-old girl, also charged with indecency, makes her first court appearance on Aug. 14 in Red Deer youth court.

The girl, who can’t be identified because of provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with committing an indecent act and obstruction.

Police have only provided the bare facts of this case. It is unknown in the passerby was caught.
