The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) Science Olympics are set to take place in Red Deer on May 4.

The APEGA Science Olympics events are held across Alberta each year, organized by staff and professional engineers and professional geoscientists from APEGA’s 10 branches.

More than 75 students will participate in APEGA Red Deer Branch’s Science Olympics, taking part in three challenges designed by professional engineers and professional geoscientists: Teams in Grades 4–6, 7–9, and 10–12 will have to use their knowledge and skills to solve a mystery challenge presented to them at the event.

Students will be evaluated based on how well they solved the mystery challenge. Teams can receive gold, silver, bronze, or innovator awards based on their success in completing the challenge. By participating, students learn skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking.

The event will be held at Red Deer Polytechnic on May 4, from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m.

APEGA is the largest regulator of self-regulated professionals in Western Canada, with nearly 69,000 registrants who safeguard public welfare and contribute significantly to Alberta’s economic success and quality of life.
