Suspect in armed robbery arrested

Police have arrested a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred May 30 at the Eastview Express 24 on Erickson Drive in Red Deer.

Police have arrested a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred May 30 at the Eastview Express 24 on Erickson Drive in Red Deer.

At approximately 8:44 a.m. that day, city RCMP responded to a complaint of robbery. An unknown male entered the convenience store and demanded cash from the clerk. The male brandished a weapon and continued to make verbal demands. He then physically assaulted the clerk. The male did not use the weapon during the assault on the clerk.

He departed on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

Surveillance footage was obtained by police and a suspect was later identified.

On Saturday, Erwin Kommnick, 38, was arrested by city RCMP.

He has been charged with robbery and assault. He is being held in custody and is appearing in Red Deer provincial court Monday.
