One of two suspects sought in connection with a violent home invasion in Red Deer last month remains in custody after a brief appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Wednesday.

Jason Eljas Holkko, 25, was arrested last week based on DNA evidence recovered after an incident at at home on Kenny Close. Red Deer City RCMP allege that he and another person broke into the house at about 1:30 a.m. on March 6, 2006 assaulted and bound the occupants, and then took off in their pickup trucks and other possessions.

Police further alleged that the truck was found later, abandoned in a rural area near Red Deer.

Holkko appeared by closed-circuit TV, represented by Red Deer lawyer John MacNaughton, who asked that his plea be reserved.

Holkko remains in custody pending his next court appearance, set for May 2.

A second suspect was being sought in connection with the incident.
