Sylvan Lake couple wins $500K in Cash and Cars lottery

Talk about good timing.

Talk about good timing.

A Sylvan Lake couple have won $500,000 — the third grand prize of the Cash and Cars and More Lottery.

Bryan and Dana Melnyk support the lottery every year.

Bryan, who is a prostate cancer survivor, said he just recently retired, so the timing couldn’t be better.

The prize was among 3,702 offered in this year’s lottery. Prizes were valued at more than $5.1 million retail.

The names of all prize winners are listed on the Cash and Cars and More Lottery website at www.cashandcarslottery.ca., beginning Friday.

An Edmonton man won the Calgary home package first grand prize.

Doug Baker and four friends bought the package of five tickets for $375. They split the tickets with each person getting one stub. Baker’s ticket was drawn. His prize is a package that includes a three-bedroom 3,896-square-foot luxury furnished home in Calgary built by Truman Homes, a 2012 Chrysler 300C and $20,000, worth a total of more than $1.3 million.

Cash and Cars and More Lottery is a joint fundraising project of the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society Alberta and N.W.T. Division.

Proceeds from the lottery will go toward cancer research, prevention, screening and treatment programs in Alberta.
