Sylvan man charged with impaired driving causing death

A Sylvan Lake man has been charged with impaired driving causing death in an incident going back 3.5 years.

A Sylvan Lake man has been charged with impaired driving causing death in an incident going back 3.5 years.

Sylvan Lake RCMP said Wednesday they have charged Preston Clifford Hanson, 23, in the single-vehicle rollover that took the life of Nathan Medwid, 19.

The rollover occurred on Hwy 20, northeast of Sylvan Lake, in the early hours of Dec. 5, 2006.

The vehicle the two men were travelling in rolled, ejecting the passenger, Medwid. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sylvan Lake RCMP charged Hanson on Sunday.

Red Deer Major Crimes Unit, Calgary Investigative Assistance Team, Red Deer Criminal Crash Investigative Team, and a Red Deer RCMP

Collision Analyst were also involved in the lengthy investigation.

Both Medwid and Hanson originated from Swan River, Man.

Hanson was released in a judicial interim hearing on Monday. His first court appearance is scheduled in Red Deer provincial court on Aug. 6.
