City of Red Deer parks employees Jill Gibbons, left, and Laura Solomons work along with other city employees, volunteers from the community and others to plant trees and shrubs just outside the Kerry Wood Nature Centre on Monday. The community tree planting event hosted by the city was a celebration of the city’s participation in the TD Green Streets Program. The city was awarded $15,000 in funding through the national program sponsored by TD to plant trees in the city. The program will enable volunteers and city staff to plant about 6,000 trees and shrubs. Volunteers from Nova Chemicals, Catholic Social Services, TD employees, community members and the Tri-High Environmental Club worked Monday to put about 2,500 plants in the ground.
