Teen escapes injury in Tuesday morning home fire

A Red Deer teen narrowly escaped injury after being awakened by a smoke detector Tuesday morning.

Red Deer firemedics douse a hot spot at a house fire in the Northwood Estates mobile home park just before 9 a.m. today. A teenaged boy sleeping in the home escaped without injury. His older sister and her boyfriend had already left when the fire was discovered. Fire investigators have not determined how the fire started.


A Red Deer teen narrowly escaped injury after being awakened by a smoke detector Tuesday morning.

Fire crews are still on scene after being called to a serious fire at 8:40 a.m. Northwood Estates in north Red Deer on Tuesday morning.

The teenage boy was alone in the mobile home at the time of the fire and was awakened by a smoke alarm. He swiftly fled the home and escaped injury.

The fire is suspected to have started in the kitchen or living room area but officials have not yet determined a cause.
