Three teens, including one adult, are under investigation following a string of ice fishing hut break-ins last weekend on Sylvan Lake.

Cpl. James Allemekinders of Sylvan Lake RCMP said Thursday police executed a search warrant at a rural property near Sylvan Lake and recovered several pieces of stolen property.

The suspects are aged 16, 17 and 18 and all from Sylvan Lake.

Possession of stolen property charges are pending, police said.

An investigation continues, police said.

More than 20 huts in the Honey Moon Bay area were broken into during the night of Jan. 24.

The locks were apparently cut by the thieves to gain entry into the huts which, in some cases are as large as 200 square feet.

Some owners have couches, chairs, fridges and televisions as well as fishing gear in the huts.

Owners reported they lost goods such as portable heaters, ice augers, fishing gear and at least one small fridge.

Police said some of the items recovered have been identified but some owners may not know their goods were stolen because they only visit the huts on weekends.

Police advise that people shouldn’t leave valuable property in the hut when they’re not occupied.
