Three men charged in downtown robbery

Three men have been charged in relation to a robbery that took place about 11:40 p.m. in downtown Red Deer on Thursday.

Red Deer City RCMP on routine patrol came upon a robbery in progress at 54 Street and Gaetz Avenue Southbound.

Police said three men were standing near the front steps of St. Luke’s Church and they were assaulting a fourth man who was laying on the ground. When police arrive the three men fled. Three men were arrested a short time later without incident.

The 26-year-old victim, of Rocky Mountain House, was transported by Red Deer Emergency Services to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with non-life threatening injuries. He was robbed of personal items during the incident. He has since been released from hospital.

Alex Gouda, 28, of Red Deer, is facing charges of robbery and breach of recognizance and Aaron Gouda, 25, of Red Deer, is facing charges of robbery and breach of probation. They will both return to Red Deer provincial court on Aug. 18.

A 29-year-old man from Rocky Mountain House, who won’t be named until an information is sworn, is facing a charge of possession of stolen property. He will be in Red Deer provincial court on Sept. 21.
