On July 11, a teenaged victim was found bound and gagged in Red Deer.

Red Deer City RCMP allege that, about a day later, police found a 44-year-old Red Deer man who had been picked up, driven into the country and repeatedly assaulted by four others. He was taken to hospital in Red Deer with injuries to his head and face. The injuries are not life threatening.

Staff Sgt. Rob Norum of Red Deer City RCMP has now confirmed that Zachary Ovid and Jason Fraser are facing charges of uttering threats, forcible confinement and aggravated assault in the alleged assault of the 44-year-old.

The original victim, whose name is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also facing charges of uttering threats, forcible confinement and aggravated assault. He is to make his first appearance in Red Deer Youth Court on July 26.

Ovid made his first appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Monday. Along with the charges listed above, he is also facing charges of trafficking cocaine and heroin. Ovid reserved his plea on Monday and remains in custody pending his next court appearance, set for Thursday morning.

Fraser has been ordered to appear in court on Aug. 14.
