A 14-month-old Red Deer boy was rushed to Edmonton hospital with serious burns after toppling boiling water onto himself at the Johnstone Daycare.

A 14-month-old Red Deer boy was rushed to Edmonton hospital with serious burns after toppling boiling water onto himself at the Johnstone Daycare.

Alberta Children and Youth Services was notified by the day care operator, Red Deer Child Care, immediately after the incident occurred on Monday morning in the Johnstone Park facility.

Executive director Rob Elliot said all of the daycare’s practices are being reviewed and the accident is being investigated.

The toddler reportedly tipped over a shelf which held a container of boiling water, which was needed for making baby formula.

Elliot said the shelf had the attachments to have been braced to the wall. But he’s not sure yet whether it was appropriately braced. “That’s what we’ll be looking at as part of our investigation.”

A friend of the toddler’s parents said the child was in pain when taken by ambulance to Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton with third-degree burns to his torso.
