Sylvan Lake is chopping another senior staff position in an administration shakeup.

Mayor Sue Sampson announced late Friday that the town’s chief administrative officer, Helen Dietz, has been served with a notice of intention to terminate her employment without cause.

Sampson said she couldn’t discuss the issue and that the paperwork is in the hands of the town’s lawyer. The Advocate was unable to reach Dietz for comment.

Last month assistant CAO Myron Thompson was informed that his position was being eliminated on Feb. 9. Sampson said the two terminations weren’t linked.

The director of protective services position, vacant since last summer, was eliminated in February.

The town conducted an organizational review by Edmonton-based consultant Beacon for Change Inc., which was completed last November.

Samson said effective immediately, Archie Grover, former deputy minister of Municipal Affairs for Alberta, will act as CAO for the town until a candidate has been found to fill Dietz’ position.

Dietz was named manager for the town of 10,000 in 2002 after being hired in 2000 as assistant town manager.
