A CP Rail train travelling through Innisfail caught on fire on Thursday, holding up traffic on several roads east and west of the town.

The Innisfail RCMP and the Innisfail volunteer fire department responded to a complaint at about 4:40 p.m. that a train travelling through Innisfail had fire blazing in one of its cars.

It turned out the train engine was on fire.

But the flames were immediately extinguished when the train engine was shut down.

Later, CP Rail personnel were able to restart the engine without incident to move the train to a different location for repair.

Police report no injuries. But the train blocked traffic in and around the town for about an hour before it could be moved.
