John and Anne Van Arragon of Red Deer got quite a surprise while sitting in their kitchen sipping their morning coffee this week. Looking out through the kitchen window, they spotted a swarm of bees in a tree just off their deck.

The swarm, estimated to be 20,000 to 30,000 bees has been clinging to the main trunk of a tree in their backyard since Sunday.

We thought at first it was a growth on the tree, it was cool on Monday and the bees were not moving said John Van Arragon.

On closer inspection however they soon realized the growth was a mass of bees. Many of the neighbors have come to see the bees and children are very interested he added.

If any small honey producer is interested in taking the bees contact Van Arragon at 403-357-9352.
