Word on the street in Red Deer on Wednesday and Thursday will be all about health care.
Two health care rallies will be held — one on Wednesday outside Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, and the other on Thursday outside the office of Red Deer-North MLA and Health Minister Adriana LaGrange.
Health care workers and allies will rally with members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) outside the hospital, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 14, where bargaining has failed to result in a contract for workers.
“Bargaining has stalled between Alberta Health Services and AUPE members working in nursing care and general support services,” said Darren Graham, vice-president of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE), in a statement.
He said these front-line health care workers and their patients deserve better.
Then on May 15, the People's Bus 2025, organized by Public Interest Alberta, will arrive from Edmonton and Calgary, and participants will continue their campaign calling on Health Minister Adriana LaGrange to resign.
"The scandals, corruption, and lies have gone on for too long. Our healthcare system is collapsing from UCP cuts and privatization," said Public Interest Alberta.
Participants will meet in the northeast parking lot at Parkland mall at about 11:45 a.m. The rally will be held outside LaGrange's office at 12:45 p.m., followed by a campaign to speak to residents.
