Wetaskiwin Fire Service is investigating the cause of a vehicle fire that took place the morning of Jan. 14, 2021 in a residential Wetaskiwin neighbourhood.

Firefighters responded to the call for the vehicle fire at 10:32 a.m on January 14. Two fire trucks and one command vehicle showed up on scene at 53 street near 40 Ave where the vehicle fire was quickly extinguished.

Deputy Fire Chief with the Wetaskiwin Fire Service Alex Plant says that although extinguishing the fire was quick work, the vehicle was a total loss.

“The fire is believed to have started in the engine compartment but the cause is still under investigation,” said Plant.

“There was no exposures to catch on fire while the incident was happening.”

The vehicle was being driven along the roadway when the fire started. The driver was able to guide the car to the side of the road and all occupants were able to exit the vehicle with no injuries.
