An attempted routine traffic stop by Wetaskiwin RCMP resulted in criminal charges being laid on Jan. 25. At approximately 7:11 a.m., RCMP attempted to pull over a black Dodge Caravan for a traffic safety violation when the Caravan sped off west bound from Wetaskiwin on Highway 13.

Covert vehicles were deployed to the area and the vehicle was followed to Red Deer. Police safely arrested two individuals when the vehicle stopped.

Red Deer resident Bruce Regie, 50, was charged with:

• Flight from police;

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;

• Operation of a vehicle while prohibited;

• Failure to comply with release order conditions;

• Possession of stolen property x2;

• And possession of break-in tools.

Regie was held in custody and his next court appearance is set for Feb. 2, 2023, at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.

Another Red Deer resident, 46-year-old Carrie Markus was charged with possession of stolen property (x2) and possession of break-in tools.

Markus was released and is set to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Feb. 23, 2023.
