Woman charged in fatal collision

Sylvan Lake RCMP reported on Wednesday that the driver of the sport utility vehicle, Brenda Smith, 50, was charged with making an unsafe left turn in regards to the collision.

Police say she was charged under section 34(2) of the Use of Highway and Rules of the Regulations.

Adam Fink, 25, died in hospital after the car he was driving collided with an SUV at the intersection of Hwys 11 and 766 near Eckville.

Neither vehicle had any passengers.

The woman was heading west on Hwy 11 and attempted to turn south on Hwy 766 when her vehicle collided with Fink’s eastbound car, police said.

Both drivers were taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for treatment. Fink was transferred from there to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

Smith is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Jan. 30.
