A 30-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a man on the Samson First Nation in Hobbema on New Year’s Eve.

A 30-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a man on the Samson First Nation in Hobbema on New Year’s Eve.

Phoebe Firingstoney faces the charges in the death of Jamie Lee Soosay, 34.

Police received a complaint about 7:40 p.m. on Saturday that a male had been stabbed at a residence on the townsite of the Samson Cree Nation in Hobbema.

RCMP and Maskwachees EMS responded to the scene where they found a man who had multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Firingstoney was arrested at the house, and remains in custody.

She is to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Tuesday. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday on Soosay.
