Woman killed in crash with semi truck

A 79-year-old woman is dead and her passenger injured after a car collided with a semi truck near Delburne on Tuesday.

A 79-year-old woman is dead and her passenger injured after a car collided with a semi truck near Delburne on Tuesday.

The collision happened about 1:45 p.m. when a mid-sized car travelling north on Hwy 21 crossed the centre line and hit a southbound semi.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with serious injuries. The passenger was then airlifted by STARS to Calgary’s Foothills Hospital.

The driver of the semi wasn’t hurt. Three Hills RCMP, Delburne fire department and Red Deer EMS responded.

Hwy 21 was closed for nearly five hours while RCMP investigated the collision, which is still under investigation. No charges will be laid.
