Yard Waste Collection begins today

Despite the late snowfall the city is gearing up for its annual Yard Waste Collection Program.

The city will begin collecting grass clippings, leaves and tree trimmings beginning today.

Last year, more than 4,300 tonnes of yard waste was diverted from the landfill and converted into compost. Waste should be left in a plastic or metal garbage container labelled with a yard waste sticker or in bio-degradable bags available at home and garden stores.

Waste will be picked up on regular garbage days and there is no limit on how much can be left out as long as it is properly identified and containers weigh no more than 25 kilograms. Yard waste put in plastic bags will be treated as garbage.

Orange yard waste stickers can be picked up at the Collicutt Centre, Recreation Centre, City Hall, civic yards or G.H. Dawe Community Centre.
