Young writers win awards

Two young Red Deer writers took home awards for their way with words this week.Grade 4 student Isaac Bahler and Grade 7 student John Rosales won the Martyn Godfrey Young Writers Award in their categories.

Two young Red Deer writers took home awards for their way with words this week.

Grade 4 student Isaac Bahler and Grade 7 student John Rosales won the Martyn Godfrey Young Writers Award in their categories.

Bahler, a Grade 4 student, is the elementary school grand prize winner, for his story Terres the Turtle.

Rosales, a Grade 7 student, is the junior high grand prize winner for his graphic novel-style story, Snowflake. Also from Red Deer, Grade 7 student Asia Gill was a runner-up in this category.

The awards are presented by the Young Alberta Book Society and sponsored by Servus Credit Union.

The awards are named after Martyn Godfrey, a popular juvenile fiction author who was a teacher. The winning stories are on the Young
