Scott Bergdahl was surprised. “It was unexpected, put it that way. But it’s a great honour,” he said Wednesday after learning he was named the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference golf coach of the year. The Red Deer College coach and head pro at Lakewood Golf Resort near Sylvan Lake guided the RDC men’s contingent to a bronze medal in the team event of the ACAC finals last fall. It was the second time in as many years the RDC men finished on the podium. “We had a tough year in some respects but the guys came together at the right time,” said Bergdahl, who writes a weekly instructional column for the Advocate during the golf season and will coach the RDC men’s and women’s teams again this fall.
