Hunting Hills captures golf title

The Hunting Hills captured the boy’s title at the provincial high school golf championship Monday.

NEW SAREPTA — The Hunting Hills captured the boy’s title at the provincial high school golf championship Monday.

The Hunting Hills team of Matt Codd, Jesse Teron, Nathan Mah and Derrick Morrell finished with a 36-hole total of 432, which was tops in the 3A-4A division and overall. Strathmore came in at 449 with St. Albert at 451 and Frank Maddock of Drayton Valley and Wetaskiwin at 458. West Island College of Calgary won the 1A-2A team title with a 459 total. Trochu had a 499 and Consort a 503.

Austin Laidlaw of Chinook High School in Lethbridge won the boys’ individual title with a 68-75—143, two strokes ahead of Codd (75-70) and three up on Teron (70-76) , Matt McCourt of Frank Maddock (70-76) and Brett Hawken of Wetaskiwin (70-76).

James Ursulak of Ponoka came in with a 79-74—153 while Morrell shot 75-84—159, Brett Samson of Trochu a 80-81—161, Brett Pasula of Notre Dame a 83-80—163, Landon Kletke of Trochu a 87-76—163 and Mah a 83-82—165.

Canmore Collegiate won the girls’ team title with a 538 total while Strathcona Tweedsmuir of Edmonton was tops in the 1A-2A division and second overall at 554. Olds came in at 642 with Lindsay Thurber at 645.

Mikala Johnson of H.J. Cody of Sylvan Lake placed 30th with a 101-110—211 total.

Kat Kennedy of Foothills Comp of Okotoks won the girls’ title with an 82-75—157.
