The Hunting Hills Lightning Bantam football team capped a memorable season with a provincial championship.
After beating the Notre Dame Cougars 26-14 to win the team's first league title since 2015, they followed it up with a successful run at the provincial level.
The Lighting travelled to Medicine Hat last Saturday and downed the Brooks Roadrunners 27-7 to earn the provincial Tier II Bantam 12-a-side title.
There were several other Central Alberta teams battling for provincial titles on the weekend.
The Ponoka Broncs lost 22-6 to Taber Rebels in the Bantam 9-A-Side Tier II Final. The Sylvan Lake Bears fell short 34-17 to the Strathcona Wolverines in the 9-A-Side Peewee Tier I Final and the Red Deer Servus Bucks lost 26-6 to the West Edmonton Raiders 9-A-Side Peewee Tier II Final.
In senior action, the H.J. Cody Lakers lost 55-0 to the Holy Rosary Raiders in the 3A playoffs, while Hunting Hills Lightning lost 15-10 to the Cold Lake Royals in the 4A playoffs. The Notre Dame Cougars fell 63-0 to the Harry Ainlay Titans in the 5A playoffs.
