Lindsay Thurber volleyball tournament begins Friday

The 38th annual Lindsay Thurber Varsity Volleyball Tournament will begin at 3 p.m. Friday.The girls’ side will have nine teams with seven in the boys’ division.

The girls’ side will have nine teams with seven in the boys’ division.

The LTCHS Raiders, Salisbury and Vanier Catholic will compete in the girls’ A Pool with Notre Dame, Bev Facey of Sherwood Park and Dr. E.P. Scarlett of Calgary in Pool B and Hunting Hills, Spruce Grove and Sylvan Lake in Pool C.

Each team will play two matches before being reseeded with the first-place teams in each pool going into the Red Division, the second-place teams in White and third-place teams in Black.

Teams play another round-robin with the top eight teams advancing to the quarter-finals. The last-place team in the Black division will be eliminated. The quarter-finals go at 4:30 p.m. Saturday with the semifinals at 5:45 p.m. and the final at 7 p.m.

Lindsay Thurber, Notre Dame, Hunting Hills, Spruce Grove, Bev Facey, Salisbury and Vanier are on the boys’ side.

They play a round-robin with the top two teams meeting in the final and the third and fourth place teams clashing for bronze. Both games go at 5:45 p.m.
