The RDP Queens cross country team will compete at the CCAA national championships next weekend in Ontario.

After back-to-back podium finishes, the RDP Queens cross-country team finally reached the top of the mountain.

The Queens were third in the province in 2022, before a silver medal finish last season at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association provincial championship.

This year, the Queens edged out all competition in Calgary last weekend to win the provincial title, the team's first since 2017-18.

The RDP Queens (40 points) were led by fourth-year Justine Larson, a 2024 ACAC Women’s Cross Country Running All-Conference team runner. Strathmore’s Larson (26:02) placed seventh over 6 km.

RDP Athlete of the Week Georgia Sawchuk (26:31) finished ninth and Melissa Ray (26:33) was 10th.

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks Women’s team (51 points) earned silver. The NAIT Ooks (64) won bronze.

The Queens will now participate in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships, which will be hosted by the St. Clair College Saints in Windsor, Ontario, on Saturday, November 9.

On the men's side, the Kings just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish.

Grimshaw’s Jordan Coen (28:56) led the Kings, completing the 8 km race in ninth spot. First-year Japhet Kipkosgei (29:09), a University Arts Diploma student from Kenya, finished 12th.

The SAIT Trojans Men’s team (10 points) wrapped up gold. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (47 points) sealed silver and NAIT (64) picked up bronze.
