A pair of Red Deer Polytechnic cross country runners are being honoured for their performances at the Running Room Grand Prix #5.

Fourth-year runner Myah Cota and freshman Japhet Kipkosgei were named RDP Athletes of the Week on Oct. 16.

Cota powered the Queens to a gold medal finish at the Camrose event with 32 points, well ahead of the second-place Lethbridge Polytechnic. Individually, she placed eighth in the 6km race, with a time of 26:32. Cota and the Queens will now compete at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association provincials in Calgary on Oct. 26.

Kipkosgei, who is from Kenya, also had a strong race, finishing sixth in the 8km race in a time of 28:59. That helped the Kings to a fourth-place finish with 59 points, just behind NAIT who had 54 points. The first-year runner will also be a key part of the Kings pursuit of a medal at the ACAC Provincial Championships on Oct. 26 in Calgary.
