Red Deer Fencing Club wins 9 medals at Hokkaido Cup

The Red Deer Fencing Club won nine medals, including five gold, in epee competition at their annual Hokkaido Cup during the weekend.

The Red Deer Fencing Club won nine medals, including five gold, in epee competition at their annual Hokkaido Cup during the weekend.

Petar Toshkov, Nathaniel Johnson and Zac Zanussi all won gold on the men’s side with Karis Langvand and Greer McIvor taking top spot on the women’s side.

Toshkov won the men’s open title with Johnson third, Zanussi 13th and Jacob Sysak 19th.

Johnson was first in the U20 division with Zanussi third, Thomas Lyver fifth and Sysak eighth.

Zanussi took top spot in the U17 category with Lyver third, Devyn Hurry fifth, Riley Norman seventh and Jesse Bawtinheimer 11th.

Hurray placed second in the U15 men’s epee with Norman fifth, Josh Balantyne eighth and Bawtinheimer 11th.

Langvand won the U20 division with Meagan McIvor ninth and Greer McIvor, who won the U17 title, 10th.

Karren Lyver was sixth in the women’s open epee with Meagan McIvor 11th.
