The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball program is entering a new chapter by welcoming incoming head coach Dante Dinter.

Formerly an assistant coach with the MacEwan University Griffins of U Sports, Dinter will step into the role for the 2025/2026 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season, following the departure of Avery Harrison.

In addition to working with Griffins Head Coach Katherine Adams, Dinter has led the Jasper Place High School team and served as program director and coach for Edmonton’s ITD Panther Basketball Club. He also has a post-secondary playing career that includes time as a student-athlete for both the Keyano College Huskies and the NAIT Ooks.

“My vision is to recruit student-athletes committed to growth, building a strong team around returning talent at Red Deer Polytechnic,” says Dinter.

“Personalized development plans will enhance their academics, skills and leadership. This approach nurtures high-level contributors on the court and within the community while re-establishing the program’s championship pedigree.”

Dinter said he is committed, not only to athletic excellence, but also "to fostering a positive, inclusive team culture where every student-athlete feels empowered to grow as a leader both on and off the court."

“I look forward to the opportunity to bring my passion, experience and dedication to Red Deer Polytechnic and contribute to the continued success of the Queens Basketball program,” said Dinter.

Dinter will begin his role as RDP Queens Basketball Head Coach on July 7, 2025.

On Friday, October 17, Dinter and the RDP Queens basketball team will open the 2025/2026 season against the NAIT Ooks on RDP’s main campus in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre at 6 pm.

The Queens concluded last season with a 12-9 record, securing fourth place in the ACAC Women’s Basketball South Division, before injuries mounted in the playoffs. RDP most recently won the ACAC Women’s Basketball Championship in 2023.

“We are excited to welcome Dante to RDP,” said Randy Stewart, manager of athletics and student life at RDP.

“With both playing and coaching experience at the post-secondary level, Dante is well equipped to foster a supportive environment that empowers student-athletes to develop their skills and reach their potential.”
