The Red Deer Rebels have found a bit of a groove lately.
Red Deer has won four of its last five games, the latest a 4-1 victory over the Regina Pats on home ice Tuesday.
Four different goal scorers found the back of the net for the Rebels, with Beckett Hamilton Derek Thurston and Talon Brigley scoring in the first period. Matthew Gard added his 11th of the season with 34 seconds left into the empty-net. Keets Fawcett scored the lone Pats goal.
Chase Wutzke made 26 saves to earn the victory, his 15th of the season.
Brigley was the first star, Rebels' Nishaan Parmar was second star with one assist and Pats forward Julien Maze was third star.
With the win, the Rebels now sit ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 20-26-4-2 record. With 16 games left on the year, the Rebels are 10 points back of the Swift Current Broncos and have played two more games.
Red Deer is on the road in Lethbridge to play the Hurricanes on Wednesday night, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
The Rebels also added to their forward depth.
The team announced Wednesday that 16-year-old American forward Owen Shadrick signed with the team. Shadrick, who is from Valencia, California, is currently with Chicago Mission 16U AAA and has 24 points (9 goals, 15 assists) in 31 games.
He joined the Chicago Mission 18U squad for the recent Circle K Classic tournament in Calgary and had two points in four games.
In 2023-24, Shadrick played for Los Angeles Jr. Kings U15 AAA and had 77 points (32 goals, 45 assists) in 78 games.
