The Red Deer Rebels will close the books on 2024 and hope for 2025 to bring better fortunes.
Red Deer lost its third straight game Monday, falling 2-1 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Peavey Mart Centrium in front of 4,105 fans.
After a scoreless first period, Hurricanes forward Brayden Edwards scored 4:55 into the second. Noah Chadwick notched his 10th of the year 4:40 into the third period to open up a 2-0 lead for the Hurricanes.
Red Deer's only offense came with 33 seconds left on a six-on-four advantage when Kalan Lind tipped home a Hunter Mayo point shot to cut the deficit.
Jackson Unger earned first-star honours for a 27-save performance in the Lethbridge net, while Chase Wutzke stopped 28 shots and earned the second-star nod. Chadwick, who scored the game-winning goal for Lethbridge, was the third star.
The Rebels have lost four straight games and have a 15-17-1-2 record, which has them ninth in the Eastern Conference and last in the Central Division.
