The U15 AAA Red Deer Rebels kicked off provincials on home ice with a victory.
On the evening of Thursday, March 20, Red Deer defeated the St. Alberta Raiders 3-1 in the first game of the U15 AAA Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships. The tournament runs until Sunday, March 23, with all games being played at Servus Arena.
Red Deer forward Jaxon Jaffray opened the scoring 16:32 into the opening period. Madden Daneault and Brooks Newfield recorded assists on the goal.
After a scoreless second period, Rebels forward Noah Ulry put his team up by two with his first goal of the tournament. The assists went to Nixon Wright and Calder Fraser.
With just two minutes left in regulation, Raiders forward Walker Filewich scored to bring his team within one. But Daneault scored an empty-netter to seal the victory for his team.
Rebels goaltender Lane Bullee stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced in the game, while Raiders netminder Tyson Moreland stopped 34 of 36. Red Deer went 0/10 on the power play in the game — the Raiders went 0/4.

"We've got five teams and there's a lot of parity in the league. Anybody coming into this tournament has a chance to win. It's going to be super exciting," he said.
Opening Ceremonies were held before the Rebels' on Thursday, March 20 at Servus Arena. The U15 AAA Rebels finished with a 27-6-0-1 record in the 2024-25 regular season, which put them at third in the Alberta Elite Hockey League.
