Placing a focus on inclusivity and community spirit, the Red Deer Legion aims to fill a gap in the local social scene, offering a great lunch menu with daily specials and a kitchen that is open for supper. Enjoy activities such as card games, shuffleboard and darts that you can enjoy as well as music, dancing and socializing most nights.
With a blend of history, service and community spirit, the Legion is more than just a place for veterans and older adults; it is a hub where families and individuals of all ages can come together for fun, friendship, and cultural experiences, says Legion General Manager Ryan Ramstad.
“Our goal is to become a place where everyone is welcome to enjoy great music, delicious food and engaging events. We want people to think of the Legion when they are planning their next night out or family activity.”
The Legion's spacious dance floor and full-service bar offer a fantastic opportunity to host a variety of events. From weekly activities including pancake Tuesdays and Wednesday dances to monthly highlights such as live music and comedy, there is always something happening.
“We have Rock, Rhythm, and Blues music by Juke this month and next month we have Albertas own Country Western singer song writer Cole Martin performing. We are also planning to add improv comedy in August and the ever-popular Elvis’s show in September,” Ramstad says.
Part of an effort to attract fresh faces and increase community awareness, the goal is to convey that the Legion is a place for everyone. And yes, there's a place in Red Deer where everyone can dance."
While embracing modernity, the Red Deer Legion remains rooted to its core mission, The Royal Canadian Legion was founded by Veterans and for Veterans. They advocate for the care and benefits for all who are currently serving or who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP as well as their families Ramstad says. This legacy is delicately woven into the Legion’s evolving identity.
New members and volunteers are always welcome. Consider joining and become part of the Legion family embracing the future with pride in their past!
