BALA, Ont. — One man has drowned and another is clinging to life after they were pulled from the water at Bala Falls in Ontario’s cottage country this afternoon, just a few days after a triple-drowning in the same area.

Provincial police from the Bracebridge detachment say two men entered the fast-moving water at the base of the falls just before 2 p.m. to rescue a nine-year-old girl — the daughter of the man on life support.

The girl, who was wearing a lifejacket and playing in the water, had begun to drift away from shore.

She was rescued.

Const. Peter Leon says the man who drowned is 44 and from the Chicago area.

The other man, a 53-year-old from Mississauga, west of Toronto, was presumed dead but was revived after being transported to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital.
