$50-million Lotto Max winners validate ticket, next step is to claim prize

Media reports say 19 workers at a Bell Canada call centre in east-end Toronto hold the winning ticket for the $50-million Lotto Max jackpot.

TORONTO — Media reports say 19 workers at a Bell Canada call centre in east-end Toronto hold the winning ticket for the $50-million Lotto Max jackpot.

There was just one winning ticket for the huge New Year’s Eve jackpot and officials had said it was sold in the Greater Toronto Area.

Sarah Kiriliuk of Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. said Monday the ticket was validated at a retailer in east Toronto and that “it’s a group win.”

But she could not give any further information, since the winners have yet to officially claim their prize and lottery corporation offices were closed Monday.

The Toronto Star reported 17 workers and two managers at Bell’s Ontario West control centre will split the $50 million.

Kiriliuk said once the winners come forward, they will appear at a news conference to discuss their big win.

“That’s all we know until they come forward to the prize centre,” she said.

It’s the first time the $50 million has been won by a single ticket in Ontario since Lotto Max launched in 2009.

The jackpot for the next Lotto Max draw this coming Friday will be an estimated $23 million.
