TORONTO — At least 16 actors dressed as zombies were injured on the set of a horror movie Tuesday when they fell off a moving platform at a studio in Toronto’s west end.

The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. on the set of ”Resident Evil: Retribution,” police said.

The victims were wearing costumes and makeup, making it more difficult for crews to assess their injuries, said Toronto EMS spokesman Peter Macintyre.

“Supposedly they were all film people and they’re dressed up like zombies, which would be quite an interesting thing to walk in on,” said Macintyre.

The incident happened at the Cinespace Film Studios, where the fifth instalment of the franchise based on the popular video game series is shooting.

It is not known if star Milla Jovovich was on the set when the incident happened.

“It appears that there were a group of actors on a platform, that one platform had wheels and they were moving over to another platform,” said Const. Tony Vella.

“As soon they were moving over, the wheels moved, causing them to fall,” he said.

A dozen people were taken to local hospitals, two of them on backboards, said Macintyre.

They suffered back, arm and leg injuries, police said.

None of the patients were taken to trauma centres, so their injuries are not considered life-threatening, he added.

A call to the production company was not immediately returned.
