BCROWSNEST PASS — A B.C. man has died on a southern Alberta highway after his motorcycle drifted off the highway in brisk winds.

Ralph Simpson, 54, of Fernie, B.C. was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Saturday afternoon on Highway 22 near Crowsnest Pass.

Police say the motorcycle was in the process of overtaking another vehicle when it drifted into the ditch.

Road conditions were excellent at the time of the crash, but RCMP say wind conditions in the area can be extreme at times.

In fact, the area is known as one of the windiest places in Canada.
