CALGARY — Hundreds of Calgarians turned out to relive their city’s Olympic glory as they watched torchbearers speed down the bobsled track and zip back and forth on a snowboard.
The crowd was dotted with people sporting the uniforms they wore to carry the torch before the city hosted the 1988 Olympics.
Many also wore volunteer jackets or other memorabilia from the games.
Lucyna Shelley, who performed a Polish dance in the ’88 opening ceremonies, says she wanted to watch the torch go by with her children.
She says it’s the closest they’ve gotten to the excitement that gripped the city 22 years ago.
The torch is headed towards the Rockies, where it will cross into British Columbia for the final leg towards the Vancouver Games.
