OTTAWA — The Foreign Affairs Department says a Canadian man has been stabbed to death in the resort town of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Local reports say that 62-year-old Leonard Francis Schell was found dead in his home on Monday morning.

Foreign Affairs has not released a name, but confirms the death of a Canadian in Puerto Vallarta.

Noticias de Nayarit, a local news site, quotes officials from the state attorney general’s office as saying Schell was stabbed 25 times in the neck, face and back.

The publication says Schell’s 45-year-old Mexican wife found his body when she returned from an outing.

Police are quoted as saying they suspect robbery as the motive because $13,000 was missing from the home safe.
