Crash victims flee from rollover

Police have one man in custody following a rollover accident on a southern Alberta reserve that forced emergency crews to go on a frantic search for victims.

EDEN VALLEY — Police have one man in custody following a rollover accident on a southern Alberta reserve that forced emergency crews to go on a frantic search for victims.

When police and paramedics arrived on the scene of the crash — about 100 km southwest of Calgary — they found a damaged car and large pool of blood.

But the people involved had all fled.

Const. Tom Christie says officers were able to quickly find the driver and one injured person.

He says officers then determined there were more injured and that alcohol had been involved in the crash.

The 21-year-old driver, who walked away without a scratch, was arrested but wasn’t much help in finding the others involved.

Eventually, one person was flown to hospital in Calgary by air ambulance and three others were taken to hospital by ground ambulance.

“Because of intoxication levels, it was very difficult to determine how many people were in the vehicle,” said Christie.
