A female Victoria police officer was stabbed Monday morning while investigating a robbery at a convenience store.

VICTORIA — A female Victoria police officer was stabbed Monday morning while investigating a robbery at a convenience store.

The officer suffered serious injuries to her hands and some wounds to her neck and is being treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries, while a 57-year-old man has been arrested.

Police say the officer was investigating a theft call and that when she was leaving the store she was blindsided by a man brandishing a knife.

The officer was stabbed, fell to the ground and was stabbed several more times before a citizen came to her rescue and pulled off the attacker.

The Good Samaritan and another person used the officer’s handcuffs to restrain the attacker until other officers arrived.

Police say the suspect is known to them, but is not connected to the store robbery.
