UPDATE:

KINDERSLEY, Sask. — RCMP say one person has suffered minor injuries after an arena complex that is hosting the provincial women’s curling championship caught fire in Kindersley, Sask.

Sgt. Carole Raymond, an RCMP spokeswoman, says there have been no fatalities in the blaze in the community about 120 kilometres west of Saskatoon.

She says officials at the scene confirm that the blaze has destroyed an older section of the arena, which is in the centre of the downtown.

Raymond says fire crews are battling to save a newer part of the complex, which includes another arena and the curling rink.

Sherry Magnuson, Kindersley’s chief administrative officer, says they’ve asked for help from firefighters in surrounding communities.

Magnuson says people who live near the complex are being asked to leave their homes as a precaution and gather at a hall on the west side of town.
