Firefighters battle blaze at figure skater Kurt Browning’s home

Firefighters were called out to battle a three-alarm fire at a home that reports say belongs to Canadian figure skater Kurt Browning.

TORONTO — A three-alarm fire at a mansion in north Toronto may be the home of Canadian figure skater Kurt Browning, say fire officials.

Firefighters have been battling the blaze that broke out at the home in the Forest Hill neighbourhood since 11 a.m.

Capt. Mike Strapko says he was told by people in the neighbourhood that it could be the home of Browning.

“I heard from one of the neighbours, but I can’t confirm that,” said Strapko, adding he hasn’t seen or spoken to the homeowners.

Strapko said the fire originated in the garage of the older, century home, which has a three-storey addition on the back of the house.

The fire worked its way up to the second and third floors of the home and then onto the roof.

“There is partial structural collapse in the roof area,” said Strapko.

Eighteen fire trucks and about 80 firefighters were on scene at the height of the blaze.

“There appears to be a fair amount of damage on the ground floor, and the second floor on the southern part of the property,” said Strapko.

“I don’t know the dollar loss yet,” he said, adding it was probably going to be very high.
